Bleasdale and Pavey progress to final

Team GB athletes Julia Bleasdale and Jo Pavey, who both ran in the 10,000 final on Friday, advanced to the 5,000m final today.

Bleasdale finished fourth in the second heat in 15m 02.00s and Pavey seventh in 15:02.84 to go through as a fastest loser.

"I've got a very tight right calf, so I was a little bit conscious about that, but everything else felt perfect," Bleasdale said.

Pavey added: "I found it hard out there from a recovery point of view, but I'm thrilled."

But Barbara Parker missed out, her time of 15:12.81 a personal best but only good for ninth place in the other heat.

Parker, a 3,000m steeplechase specialist, was not too downbeat, saying: "Anyone that comes into a race says if I run a PB that's all I could have done. And I did."
