Belcher into two finals

Lani Belcher has qualified for the final in two events of the European Olympic Qualifier in sprint canoeing at Poznan.

The event in Poland is the last opportunity to qualify further boats in this summer's Olympic Games as well as impress the selectors at an individual level.

And Belcher certainly set about making a name for herself, finishing second in her heat of the K1 200m, with the top three places automatically qualifying for Thursday's final.

Earlier, Belcher and Angela Hannah booked their spot in the showpiece K2 500m after finishing third in their heat.

There was disappointment for Katherine Trotter, however, as she was knocked out at the semi-final stage after finishing eighth in the K1 500m.

Andy Daniels and Matthew Lawrence both narrowly missed out on qualification to the finals of their respective events.

Daniels finished fifth in the K1 1000m semi-final, where a top-four place would have sealed a final berth, while Lawrence finished nine-tenths of a second outside the final positions in the C1 1000m.

Richard Jefferies is through to the semi-finals of the C1 200m on Thursday, when Jonathan Boyton and Edward Rutherford will compete for a final place in the K2 1000m.
