Allen keeps Britain among the World Cup medals in Doha

Sophie Allen ensured Britain enjoyed success on both days of the FINA Swimming World Cup in Doha as she took 200m butterfly silver for a fifth medal from three meetings so far on the circuit.

Double silver for Allen on her opening appearance on the short course World Cup series in Moscow was followed by a solitary medal of the same colour in Dubai.

However she was back to picking up two podium finishes as the World Cup made the short trip to Doha adding 200m butterfly silver on day two to the second she claimed in the 200m medley.

Allen set a new personal best of 2:07.20minutes as short course sensation Katinka Hosszu took gold in 2:06.60 while Michael Jamieson’s fine medal run ended.

He was disqualified in the 100m breaststroke after gold in the 200m equivalent, which was his fifth successive World Cup medal after also impressing in Moscow and Dubai.

Allen was also fourth in the 200m breaststroke and sixth over 50m as proceedings came to a close in Doha while Liam Tancock was eighth in the 50m backstroke.
