Adcock and White claim Hong Kong Open title

Chris Adcock and Gabby White claimed England’s first Superseries title in four years as they were victorious at the Hong Kong Open.

The pair saw off the challenge of London 2012 champions Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei of China to book their spot in the Hong Kong Open mixed doubles final.

And in the showpiece they showed no signs of fatigue from that success as they beat China’s Cheng Liu and Bao Yixin 21-14, 24-22 to take home the title.

It is England’s first success in one of the Badminton World Federation’s leading events since Olympic silver medallist Nathan Robertson and Anthony Clark won a men’s doubles title in Singapore in 2009.

And after writing their name in the history books White, who married Adcock earlier this year, couldn’t hide her excitement.

White tweeted: "Wow! Can't describe the feeling right now! One of my dreams finally accomplished! It couldn't have been done without all the support from the staff and everybody who has helped me along the way! Hopefully the first of many!did the WHITE name proud in its last tournament."
