Joanne Jackson was the only other British swimmer aside from Rebecca Adlington to win a medal in the pool at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, collecting 400m freestyle bronze behind her teammate.

She struggled with asthma-related injuries following the winter of 2009, and feared she wouldn’t reach the London Olympic Games, but qualified and went on to finish fifth in the 4x200m relay.

Joanne won Commonwealth silver in 2006, and is the younger sister of Nicola Jackson, who won World 4x200m freestyle relay gold in 2001 and who swam at the Sydney Olympics the year before.
