Born into a ski-enthusiastic family, Gareth Trayner first stepped into skis at the age of four on the slopes of Glencoe. From there he later developed a taste for racing and was selected for the Scottish Team, with whom he raced for five years – two of the seasons full time in Canada.

Alpine skier Gareth represented Team GB in the men's Slalom at the Salt Lake City Games in 2002 where he finished 22nd.

Gareth initially retired in 2004 but came out of retirement to win the Scottish championship in 2005.
