Elise Christie was once again on the podium at the short track speed skating World Cup as she picked up her sixth medal of the season with bronze in the Olympic host city of Sochi.

Christie has been in fine form this season with four of her podium finishes, which includes one win, coming over 1000m to give her the lead in the overall World Cup standings for the distance.

However she has also been performing in the 1500m as proved by her World Cup silver in Nagoya in December and by her European gold, she also claimed the 1000m title, last month in Malmo.

And it was in the 1500m that Christie, who claimed overall silver at the Europeans, picked up her sixth World Cup medal of the season at the Olympic test event in Sochi’s Iceberg Skating Palace.

Christie took bronze in a time of 2:26.696minutes in Russia as Korea’s Shim Suk Hee maintained her overall World Cup lead in the distance by taking gold just ahead of China’s Li Jianrou.

Meanwhile fellow Brits Jon Eley and Paul Stanley made the B final of the first of two men’s 500m events in Sochi, placing second and fourth for sixth and eighth overall respectively.

Jack Whelbourne reached the quarter-finals of the same event as did Charlotte Gilmartin, who won 1500m bronze at the European Championships, in the first of two women’s 500m events.

In the men’s 1500m Joshua Cheetham reached the repechage semi-finals and Richard Shoebridge the repechage heats before the latter formed part of the British 5000m relay team.

Shoebridge joined Whelbourne, Stanley and Eley for the 5000m relay semi-finals with Britain progressing to the final after finishing second behind the Netherlands in their heat.
