Wilson ready for Luhmuhlen aboard Opposition Buzz

Nicola Wilson insists she will saddle up her Olympic silver-medal winning ride Opposition Buzz at this week’s Luhmuhlen Horse Trials with nothing holding her back.

The 36-year-old joined forces with Mary King, Zara Phillips, Kristina Cook and William Fox-Pitt to help Britain claim team eventing silver at the London 2012 Olympics last summer.

Wilson, making her Olympic debut, did so aboard Opposition Buzz and, individually, only didn’t make the final jumping round because of the strength of King, Cook and Phillips.

They took the three British places allowed in 25-strong final jump field with Fox-Pitt placing 15th after round one and Wilson 19th however neither King, Cook nor Phillips medalled.

Wilson has competed aboard Opposition Buzz just three times since, including a 30th-place finish at Badminton last month, and admits it feels right doing so at the Luhmuhlen Horse Trials.

“Buzz was in such fine form at Badminton this year,” said Wilson. “For the past few years, as I have been saving him for team selection later in the year, he hasn’t run in many three-day events.

“Therefore, as he is not getting younger, Rosemary Search and myself thought we should enjoy him while he is still capable of competing at such a high level and he enjoys himself so much on the cross-country phase.”
