Wilcox nets five but Russia too strong in World League

Great Britain were pushed aside by a powerful Russian team in their women's water polo World League match in in Chelyabinsk.

The hosts - and last season's runners-up - started strongly and never looked back

Britain's Chloe Wilcox top scored with five goals while Ciara Gibson-Byrne and Fran Clayton netted hat-tricks.

But Russia always looked on course to win against a British team that included international newcomers Rosie Huck and Katy Andrews and emerged comfortable 20-13 winners.

“We are disappointed not to have won, but there were some very good phases of play, in particular the second period which we dominated," said Wilcox.

Great Britain will take on Spain in their final World League qualifying match in Manchester on April 22.
