Double Olympic bronze medallist Max Whitlock was determined to accentuate the positive after a mixed qualifying performance at the gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp.
With one of the four divisions of gymnasts still to compete, Whitlock remains hopeful of making the top eight to progress to the final of his signature pommel horse apparatus.
And his 86.941 overall score should be enough to comfortably rank him in the top 24 for the men's all-around final.
British team-mate Dan Purvis will hope to join him there and is currently placed seventh overall, two places ahead of Whitlock. He also posted one of the days best floor routines, scoring 15.266.
"It's my first experience of the worlds but overall I'm really happy and hopefully I'll get a chance to come back and compete again," said Whitlock.
"I made a few silly mistakes on the floor routine but it was a new routine and I was really pleased to land a new tumble. I know how to correct the things I mucked up on.
"There are lots of strong competitors here, we'll just have to wait and see whether it's enough after all the qualifications are over."
British team-mates Kristian Thomas, Dan Keatings, Sam Oldham and Ashley Watson are all in action on Tuesday morning.
