This Week in Olympic Sport: September 30-October 6

Double Olympic gymnastics bronze medallist Max Whitlock is the pick of the Brits in action this week, as we give a flavour of the Olympic sports taking place over the next seven days.

Whitlock, who won team and pommel horse bronze at the London 2012 Olympics last summer, heads the British charge at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp.

He is joined in Belgium by fellow Olympic bronze medal winning teammates Sam Oldham, Dan Purvis and Kristian Thomas with Daniel Keatings and Ashley Watson completing the British men’s squad.

There are also four British women involved, Ruby Harrold, Rebbeca Downie, Rebecca Tunney and Hannah Whelan, with qualifying followed by the all-around and then apparatus finals.

Archery’s World Championships really kick into gear in Antalya, while there is a global gathering in sailing’s Laser Radial class with Rizhao in China acting as the host venue.

World-class badminton returns to British shores courtesy of the London Grand Prix at the Copper Box, while winter sports action continues in the form of short track speed skating.

After last week’s opening World Cup of the Olympic season in Shanghai, the second event swiftly follows with the circuit travelling across Asia and to Seoul in South Korea.

It represents the last chance for skaters to fine tune their preparations ahead of the final two World Cups in Torino and Kolomna, which act as qualifiers for next year’s Olympics in Sochi.
