This Week in Olympic Sport: October 21-27

It’s soon to be make or break time at the AIBA World Boxing Championships with medals decided this week as we give a flavour of the Olympic sport taking place over the next seven days.

Boxing’s amateur global gathering reaches its climax in Almaty with Olympic welterweight silver medallist from London 2012 Fred Evans among those leading Britain’s charge.

Another Olympic silver medallist from London 2012, Michael Jamieson, will be looking to continue his own success as the fifth FINA World Cup of the short course season takes place in Doha.

Jamieson, who won Olympic 200m breaststroke silver at London 2012, has three silvers and a gold from the Moscow and Dubai legs and will be joined in Doha by Sophie Allen and Liam Tancock.

Much like the boxing, the World Weightlifting Championships kick into full swing after opening up on Sunday while there is winter action too in the form of figure skating and all-important British Skeleton selection races.

After the Skate America Grand Prix, Skate Canada takes place in St John and Altenberg hosts the British Skeleton selection races with places on the World Cup team up for grabs in Germany.

Olympic silver medallist from Turin 2006 and reigning world champion Shelley Rudman has been pre-selected, leaving two women’s World Cup spots available while there are three men’s places to play for.
