The door is still open for Britain's triathletes to claim Olympic places at this weekend's World Triathlon Series event in Madrid, according to Olympic performance manager Malcolm Brown.
The race is the last that will count towards qualifying for the London Games, and so far only Alistair Brownlee, Jonny Brownlee and Helen Jenkins are guaranteed places.
Britain have secured three spots in both the men's and women's races in Hyde Park in August, and a number of athletes are in contention for the team, which will be named next month.
British Triathlon have stressed their priority is winning a first Olympic medal, and they have left open the possibility of picking domestiques to help the Brownlees and Jenkins.
That would be controversial, with the likes of Will Clarke, Tim Don and Vicky Holland having already achieved top-10 finishes in WTS races this season.
Alistair Brownlee continues to recover from an Achilles injury while fellow world champion Jenkins, a dominant winner in San Diego last time out, has chosen to miss Madrid, but Jonny Brownlee has travelled to Spain.
The 22-year-old from Leeds took his first major senior win over the Olympic distance in San Diego last time out and, in the absence of his brother, will start Sunday's race as favourite.
Brown said: "Helen Jenkins and Jonathan Brownlee had dominant performances in San Diego, demonstrating that their winter training has gone well. The key for them now is to keep doing what they are doing well and avoid distractions.
"There have been other notable performances, but we are no clearer in knowing who will be selected for the remaining Olympic places.
"We will know that after Madrid this weekend, but what we do know is that we have been successful in securing our maximum possible number of slots with three men's and three women's places available. This is something that we did not achieve in Beijing on the women's side, and having three athletes can only strengthen our team in London this summer."
