Ross excited ahead of London Marathon return

Freya Ross admits she is chomping at the bit to return to the place where her London 2012 adventure began later this month.

Scottish long-distance runner Ross is busy preparing for the 2013 London Marathon, which takes place on April 21.

It will be only the 29-year-old’s second involvement in the world famous race, with last year’s debut seeing her not only run a personal best time of 2:28.10hours but also end up claiming a spot at the London Olympics following Paula Radcliffe’s withdrawal through injury.

But Ross wasn’t done there as she went on to cross the finish line in the capital as the fastest British woman in 44th thanks to a time of 2:32:14.

And Ross, who achieved the above under her maiden name of Murray before wedding Michael Ross in September, insists she can’t wait to hit the capital once more – even if the heavens open again just like they did for her London 2012 adventure.

“The London Olympics was just unbelievable,” she said. “I absolutely loved being part of the Olympic team and it was an amazing atmosphere and I was just happy to be there.

“Preparations for the London Marathon have been going pretty well. I had a bit of a knee problem at the start of the year but touch wood that seems fine now.

“The last few weeks have been really good and I am looking forward to it.

“I have been over in Colorado and I was out there for nine weeks training with my coach Steve Jones who is based over there so that was really good.

“I haven’t looked at the forecast but there is nothing you can do about the weather and you just have to do the best you can.”
