Rising star Summerhayes just misses medal at X Games

Freestyle skier Katie Summerhayes just missed out on a medal at the Winter X Games in Tignes.

Summerhayes, who carried the British flag at last year's Winter Youth Olympic Games, ranked fourth in the ski slopestyle event as Canadian world champion Kaya Turski took gold ahead of Norway's Tiril Christiansen and Canada's Dara Howell.

But 17-year old Summerhayes, who won a World Cup silver this season and finished fourth at the recent World Championships, described herself as stoked with the performance, although conceded there was work to do to close the points gap on the top three.

However, there was disappointment for British world silver medallist James Woods who ranked a disappointing 14th in the men's ski slopestyle qualifying and failed to progress to the final.
