Regini-Moran selected as Closing Ceremony flag bearer

Multi medal-winning gymnast Giarnni Regini-Moran has today been selected by Chef de Mission Sarah Winckless as the Team GB flag bearer for the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games Closing Ceremony.

After claiming five medals in the men’s artistic gymnastics competition Regini-Moran became Team GB’s most decorated Youth Olympian, winning three gold medals (all-around, floor and vault) and two bronze medals (high bar and parallel bar).

“I was over the moon when I was told I had been selected as Team GB’s flag bearer, it’s not something I was even thinking about because I wasn’t even shortlisted as one of the flag bearers for the Opening Ceremony,” said the 15-year-old.

“It’s quite scary to think that I am going to be out there in front of all those people leading out Team GB. I’ll guess I’ll have to get practicing on my march.

“I’ve had the best time here in Nanjing and I don’t think this experience can get any better.”

Speaking on her selection of Regini-Moran as the flag bearer Winckless said: “Giarnni has absolutely embodied the One Team GB values.

“As one of the youngest athletes in the gymnastics competition Giarnni ended up winning three gold and two bronze medals. It was a phenomenal effort and performance, which he maintained throughout the competition, which was no mean feat.

“I am also impressed with how Giarnni managed himself throughout the Games. He has a personality and character that is able to unify a team and for me a perfect choice for flag bearer.”
