Olympic bronze medallist Dan Purvis has vowed to get into the spirit of the Commonwealth Games as he readies himself to compete at next month’s all-around artistic gymnastics World Cup in Glasgow.
Purvis will be joined in Glasgow by compatriot Sam Oldham, both part of the British quintet that won Olympic team bronze at London 2012, while Ruby Harrold competes in the women’s event.
He finished fifth in the all-around at the European Championships in Moscow and seventh at the World Championships in Antwerp, where he was also fourth in the floor.
Purvis will come up against European all-around bronze medallist Oleg Verniaiev among others in Glasgow and can’t wait to taste the atmosphere ahead of next year’s Commonwealth Games in the Scottish city.
“I’m so happy to be competing in the Glasgow World Cup once again in my home country, it’s going to be a great atmosphere like last year I’m sure,” said Purvis.
“It’s also great to have the event ahead of the Commonwealth Games next year; hopefully it will get everybody in the spirit.”
