Phillips takes second at Luhmuhlen Horse Trials

Zara Phillips claimed second at the Luhmuhlen Horse Trials as Andrew Nicholson maintained his lead to win the four-star event in Germany.

Phillips, the former world champion and a member of the British quartet that won eventing team silver at last year's Olympics, was quick and clear on High Kingdom.

But New Zealander Nicholson, who was leading coming into the decisive jumping stage, maintained that advantage with a clear round on Mr Cruise Control, a performance which also secures him the overall FEI Classics title.

Great Britain's William Fox Pitt also enjoyed a solid weekend, claiming third and fourth on Neuf de Coeurs and Lionheart respectively.

Elsewhere, British show jumper William Funnell claimed his first Global Champions Tour podium in Cannes when he guided Billy Congo to second place. Germany’s Marcus Ehning and Plot Blue took the Grand Prix title.
