Olympic24: Froome hungry ahead of huge 2016

Chris Froome admits he will have to be better than ever if he is going to claim another Tour de France title in 2016 while James Guy wins second gold at Swimming World Cup in Doha.

Chris Froome says he is keen to avoid the trap of complacency in 2016 after claiming his second Tour de France title earlier in the year.

The Briton won his first title in 2013 but crashed out a year later to end his hopes of back-to-back yellow jerseys.

However, he used the disappointment of failure to fuel his fire this year but knows the mindset will be different heading into the 2016 edition.

“What’s more tricky is trying to stay motivated and even trying to improve when things have gone well for you,” he told Cycling News.

“It’s quite easy to fall into the trap of becoming complacent. You say, ‘I’ve won the Tour de France, I’ll just go in next year and try and do the same again’. But it doesn’t work like that.

“I’m going to have to try and be better next year, I’ve got to look at everything – every factor, my nutrition, my training, everything – to be ready for the Tour de France, and try and do it better than I have in the past.”

James Guy claimed his second gold medal of the Swimming World Cup in Doha as Great Britain took their medal tally to nine at the end of the second day.

Guy was quickest in the 200m freestyle after he took the 400m freestyle crown on Monday.

In the women's 400m freestyle Jazz Carlin finished in 4:07.42 to take her second silver of the meet after her performance in the 800m.

Elsewhere Luke Greenbank won clocked 1:58.83 in the 200m backstroke to take bronze behind Japan's Masaki Kanek while Liam Tancock and Stephen Milne also finished third in the 1500m freestyle and 50m backstroke respectively.

Chris Adcock insists he and wife Gabby are in good shape building into Rio 2016 as the pair ramp up their preparations for an assault on the podium.

They reached the final of the Bitburger Open over the weekend before losing to unseeded duo Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Zieba.

But Adcock is convinced the pair are headed in the right direction with the Olympics less than 300 days away.

“Things are going ok on the court at the moment – me and Gabby are progressing well towards Rio,” he said.

“On Sunday it wasn’t the result we wanted, we wanted to win the Bitburger Open but these things happen in sport.

“We’re going to hopefully bounce back – we’re off to China on Saturday so we’ll get a good week of rest and then look to continue our good form in Asia.”
