Olympic medallists hold no fear for Mouat in Euro curling final

Scottish curling skip Bruce Mouat insists there is no fear ahead of the European title showdown with Olympic silver medallists Sweden this weekend.

Mouat's rink - Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan - needed an extra-end to edge past Italy in their semi-final, setting up a clash with Nicolas Edin's Swedes, confident winners over Germany.

It would be a perfect end to a year of mixed emotions for Mouat, who narrowly missed out on Olympic qualification with mixed doubles partner Gina Aitken before beating Team GB's PyeongChang rink to earn World Championship selection, where his team won bronze.

"We know we can beat Sweden, we've beaten them before, so it's not a new thing for us," he said.

"It is a dream situation to play a team like Edin's in the final, it is a team that we really rate. It will be really exciting to play them in the final and I'm sure we can come away with that gold medal."

Edin is looking for a record fifth consecutive European title but was pushed the distance by Mouat's rink in the round-robin stages.

"The record before our team was three in a row and as long as we can keep this streak going, every one will feel as important as the last one," he said.

"Scotland was a tough game for us in the round-robin, we had to score three in the last end to beat them, so we're going to have to play really well."

Meanwhile, three-time Olympian Eve Muirhead is determined to accentuate the positives after failing to make the medal matches for the first time in eight European tournaments.

With a new-look rink and a summer hampered by injury and rehab, the 2014 Olympic bronze medallist always knew this week in Estonia would be tough.

"I think as a team we can take a lot of positives from this event," she said.

"We played a lot of great curling this week, but unfortunately we just seemed to be on the wrong side of the inch and gave up a few silly games during the week.

"I think we have doubled the number of games we have played as a team during this week, so for us this has been a big learning process.

"Next week we head out to the World Cup and we will continue to build on the different things we have worked on and that will provide a base towards good things at the Scottish Championships and, hopefully, also the worlds."
