Olympic bronze medallist Shaw sixth on Qingdao return

Bryony Shaw had to settle for sixth as she returned to the scene of her Olympic bronze medal at the Qingdao World Cup.

Shaw was the only Brit to head to the Far East as the World Cup season kicked off at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games venue.

However, she couldn’t repeat her efforts of five years ago which resulted in RS:X bronze as she placed sixth overall.

Shaw claimed seven top-five finishes from the 12-race series as China’s Peina Chen took victory ahead of Jiahui Wu.

Still Shaw has enjoyed a fine year to date, winning world and European silver and having not previously finished any lower than fourth.

The World Cup series now moves to Melbourne in December before regattas in Miami, Mallorca and Hyeres in the new year.
