Morgan joins Nicholls in snowboard slopestyle final

Billy Morgan ensured that Britain will have two snowboarders in the men’s slopestyle final at the Winter Olympics after winning the semi-final round.

Morgan placed sixth in the first of two qualification heats on Thursday as he became the first athlete to compete at the Sochi 2014 Games.

The 24-year-old was less than impressed with not being among the top four that advanced automatically to the final but came out strong in the semis.

He landed another triple on his first run to score 90.75, which would be enough to see him through to the final at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park in first place.

Morgan produced a second triple of the semi-finals second time out but didn’t complete his run with Sage Kotsenburg the next best qualifier with 90.50.

The British snowboarder’s score was more than fellow Brit Jamie Nicholls managed in reaching the final after scoring 86.75 for fourth in his heat.
