Simon Hulstone designs a winning menu for guests at exclusive Team GB and ParalympicsGB event
Michelin-starred chef Simon Hulstone has been unveiled as executive chef for ‘Our Greatest Team Rises’, a star studded event taking place at the Royal Albert Hall on the 11th May to raise funds for the 900 athletes who will represent Team GB and ParalympicsGB as part of Our Greatest Team at the London 2012 Games.
Like the athletes he’ll be cooking for, Hulstone has represented his country on many occasions since his career began aged 16. Most recently he competed in the Bocuse d’Or, a biennial world chef championship. Hulstone also recently beat hundreds of chefs to become British Airways Great Briton in the food category, and was lucky enough to have been mentored by Heston Blumenthal along the way.
‘Our Greatest Team Rises’ will be an exclusive evening comprising of the best of British entertainment, headlined by Take That star and songwriter Gary Barlow and presented by hosts Davina McCall and John Bishop. There will be additional entertainment from singing sensation Alfie Boe, bright young classical star, violinist Charlie Siem and Britain’s Got Talent winners, Spelbound.
Also in attendance will be Melanie C of Spice Girls fame in her role as Artist Chair for ‘Party to 2012’, the official series of events taking place in association with Team GB in this special Olympic year.
Hulstone comments, "As a patriotic Brit, I feel privileged and proud to be cooking at such an esteemed occasion. Our athletes have worked hard and sacrificed so much to compete in the London Games. I’m both excited and nervous at the prospect of being part of the celebrations and fundraising for Team GB and ParalympicsGB before they enter the biggest occasion of their sporting lives. I'm working on a gold medal winning menu for the banquet. ”
Hulstone’s other accolades include winning the Roux Scholarship in 2003 and the Craft Guild of Chefs National Chef of the Year Award in 2008.
Hulstone and his team will be cooking for Britain’s athletes, entertainment and music stars as well as dignitaries and he is more than qualified to produce a spectacular culinary feast on what will be a night to remember for all in attendance.
