McIntosh adds to brilliant year with European gold

Seonaid McIntosh surprised even herself as she claimed gold with a world record-equalling score at the European Championships in Bologna.

The Scottish rifle shooter scored 599-27x in 300m Prone to equal the world’s best score, joining Denmark’s Charlotte Jakobsen and Switzerland’s Bettina Bucher in the record books.

The gold makes it two medals for McIntosh at the Championships, adding to the mixed team prone bronze she won with Ken Parr a week ago.

“This result was a bit unexpected for me but I'm very happy with the shoot,” said McIntosh, who last year secured a shooting quota place for Team GB at next year’s Olympic Games.

“Shame about my unlucky 13th shot!”

Germany’s Eva Roesken was beaten into second with a score of 598-39x while Linda Olofsson from Sweden took home bronze having scored 596-31x.

The result continues a phenomenal year in which McIntosh has won gold and silver medals at the World Cup in Rio and been announced as the number one 3P shooter in the world.
