Callum Smith saw his hopes of reaching the London 2012 Olympic Games dashed in cruel circumstances at the final qualifying tournament in Trabzon.
The Liverpool light-welterweight could only watch in agony as home fighter Bahram Muzaffer beat Azerbaijan's Vatan Huseynli to win the 81kg gold medal.
With only three qualifying places left at the weight, Smith's only hope was if Huseynli - to whom he lost 16-14 in the semi-final - had gone on to beat Muzaffer.
Huseynli led by one point at the end of the first round but eventually lost 18-12, dashing the hopes of the 22-year-old, who won Commonwealth Games bronze in Delhi last year.
The result means Great Britain have a confirmed team of seven men's boxers for the Games - one fewer than the eight-strong team that qualified for Beijing.
Middleweight Anthony Ogogo and lightweight Josh Taylor qualified last week, joining the already-qualified Andrew Selby, Luke Campbell, Thomas Stalker, Fred Evans and Anthony Joshua.
Three female boxers - Nicola Adams, Natasha Jonas and Savannah Marshall - will also get the chance to qualify for the Games via the World Championships in China next month.
