Kenny bravely battles on at Track World Championships

Laura Kenny rebounded from an earlier crash to finish 12th in the women's omnium as Great Britain finished day three without a medal at the Track World Championships.

Kenny needed stitches to her right eye after a heavy fall in a five-rider crash in the opening scratch race, ending her chances of a medal.

It adds to the broken shoulder she is already dealing with but she showed no ill-effects by staging a brave fightback to finish 12th.

The four-time Olympic champion even battled to third in the final sprint and admits she will be better for it when it comes to the Tokyo Games.

"It just wasn't my day," she told BBC Sport.

"When I came down I knew my shoulder was OK and that was all I cared about and then the blood gushed out of my face and I thought 'now what have I done?!'

"But I am glad I carried on. I need to be in races, otherwise in six months time I will feel nervous."

It’s been an eventful start to the year for Kenny, who broke her shoulder at the Track World Cup event in Canada last month.

She rejected surgery and won team pursuit silver on Thursday but Great Britain is still waiting for the first gold of the week.

Mark Stewart was the other rider in action and he fought to 12th in the men’s points race.
