Jennings delight at EuroBasket winning run

Great Britain head coach Damien Jennings hailed his team after they secured their second round place at the women's EuroBasket in Trelaze.

Kim Butler and Jo Leedham both hit 14 points in a 69-56 win over higher ranked Latvia, which backed up a win over Serbia 24 hours earlier.

It means they now play hosts and tournament favourites France on Monday with the pressure off - and progressing from the group matches their performance two years ago in Poland.

"We set out the goal seven weeks ago to make it to the second round," said Jennings.

"To do it in the first two games makes life a little easier going into the third game, but we'll certainly be coming back to give France the best game we've got.

"There's lot of teams that can win one game. But to follow it up and win two games, that's what the best teams do. That's what championship teams do. We're in the second round and pleased to be there."

But star player Leedham - who plays for French club Bourges - is looking to make it three in a row and avenge the 80-77 overtime loss to France in the group stages of the London 2012 Olympics.

"That left a very bitter taste in our mouths," she said.

"We know France are a very smart team with a very solid point guard in Celine (Dumerc) and Edwige (Lawson-Wade) backing her up. So they have very smart playmakers. We just have to be smart, execute and play tough."
