Sir Chris Hoy remains on course for a British record sixth Olympic cycling gold after advancing to the keirin final on a climactic final day of competition at the London 2012 velodrome.
Hoy took his Olympic gold medal-winning tally to five - level with Sir Steve Redgrave - on Thursday with victory in the team sprint and had to wait until Tuesday's final day of action on the Siberian pine for a further opportunity.
After watching team-mate Jason Kenny win the sprint title Hoy won in Beijing, the Scot took part in the keirin, which begins behind a motorised Derny bike.
After making serene progress through his first round heat, Hoy had to wait in the second, when Spain's Juan Peralta Gascon crashed due to a mechanical problem and a restart was required.
Hoy led with two laps to go and in trademark style powered to victory.
Malaysia's Awang Azizulhasni and Teun Mulder of Holland followed the Briton into the final, which was likely to be Hoy's final appearance on the Olympic stage.
