Holland heads 12-strong squad at European Championships

London Olympian Vicky Holland will lead a 12-strong Great Britain team at next month’s Triathlon European Championships in Alanya, Turkey.

Holland, who finished 26th at London 2012, will feature in the senior women’s event when the competition gets underway on June 14-16.

She will be joined by Non Stanford, Lois Rosindale and Vanessa Raw while Adam Bowden and Mark Buckingham will compete in the men’s event.

Defending European junior champion Georgia Taylor-Brown, 19, features in a strong team of junior athletes that also includes Florie McLeish and Sian Rainsley.

The junior men’s team sees Australian Youth Olympic medallists Marc Austin and Gordon Benson joined by Grant Sheldon.

British Triathlon Peformance Director Brendan Purcell said: “The really special thing about the Europeans is that we compete together as one large Great Britain team.

“Our focus this year is the World Triathlon Grand Final in London, but winning titles is important in every athlete’s career, and the Europeans are an opportunity to become a champion.

“I’m looking for our athletes to gain experience in a pressured environment and I’m looking for them to take the opportunity to race intelligently as a group. If they do that then I hope that success will follow.”
