Halsall hat-trick takes Brits top in Berlin

Fran Halsall claimed her third gold of the week in Berlin, propelling Great Britain to the top of the European Swimming Championships medal table.

The 24-year-old added the 50m freestyle title to her 50m backstroke and 4x100m mixed medley triumphs in one of three golden moments for the Brits on the meet’s final evening.

The Southport swimmer also claimed a bronze medal in the 4x100m medley alongside Georgia Davies, Sophie Taylor and Jemma Lowe.

Jazz Carlin also comes away from Berlin as a multiple European champion, claiming victory in the 400m individual medley, having also won the 800m on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 4x100m medley quartet Chris Walker-Hebborn, Adam Peaty, Adam Barrett and Ben Proud powered GB to their third gold of the evening and 20th medal of the meet.

And Roberto Pavoni’s silver in the 400m medley was his second medal of the week, with Max Litchfield touching the wall in fourth.
