Goddard, Renwick seal finals berths

Olympic finalists James Goddard and Robbie Renwick both reached the finals of their respective events at the European Championships in Debrecen.

Goddard was fifth fastest in the 200 metres individual medley, in which he is Commonwealth champion, in two minutes 0.66 seconds.

The Stockport ITC swimmer has declared his intention to compete only in the medley rather than double up with the 200m backstroke at the Olympics this summer.

There he is set to face Beijing silver medallist Laszlo Cseh, who heads the field into Wednesday's final, 1.64secs ahead of second-fastest qualifier Simon Sjoedin.

Renwick reached the final of the 200m freestyle in sixth in 1:48.89 with world record holder Paul Biedermann looking to complete a double following Monday's victory over 400m, in which the Briton just missed out on a medal, finishing fourth.

Individual medley specialist Sophie Allen was 21st in the 100m breaststroke in 1:10.56.
