Frustration for British canoeists

Britain endured a frustrating day at the ICF World Cup 2 event in Pau as three canoe slalom competitors all came a cropper at the same stage of the course.

Mark Proctor and David Florence failed to progress to the final of the C1M as both were unable to pass successfully through gate 21. Proctor was down in 29th with Florence 25th after 50-second penalties were applied to both, well outside the top-10 finish required to reach the final.

Florence said: "I didn't get my whole head through gate 21 so ended up with a 50-second penalty. It's disappointing, my time was good enough for the final, but sometimes it just doesn't go your way."

Campbell Walsh did line up in the final of the K1M but pushed off line just above gate 21 and had to settle for 10th place after penalties were applied.
