Fit and ready Brownlee ready to complete title collection

Olympic triathlon champion Alistair Brownlee insists he is fit and ready to claim the only major title missing from his collection in Glasgow.

Brownlee has targeted this week's Commonwealth Games triathlon as his principle ambition this season and claims there are no injury concerns to distract him on a course that should suit his style.

"Everything is fine, I'm fit and there's nothing wrong, which is not something I've said very often in the last few years," he said. "I can't complain about my shape at all.

“The last few weeks have gone well for me. I’m happy with where I am and I’m excited to get out there and race for Team England in my first Commonwealth Games.

"The course is good. There's nothing easy on it but nothing hard either, it should be quite challenging though. It's a course that suits my style, there is no hiding on it. It's going to be hard and it should make for a really honest race."

Brother Jonny Brownlee, the Olympic bronze medallist, has conceded he won't regain his world title this year and has also made no secret that Glasgow plays a pivotal role in his season.

"This has been my major aim since the start of the year, it's a one day event and all the pressure is on," he said.

"I'm feeling good. I raced in Hamburg ten days ago and that went well and I've done a consistent block of training. I'm just looking forward to racing again now."

England's Jodie Stimpson leads the home challenge in the women's race in the absence of defending world champion Non Stanford and former world champion Helen Jenkins - whose injuries left what looked like a powerful Welsh team decimated.

"It's a worker's course, which is exactly how I prefer it," she said.

"My preparations couldn't have gone any better. I'm just excited to get out there. It's my first major Games and it's pretty special.

"It will be brilliant to represent Team England in front of my friends and family in Strathclyde Park. Having missed out on the Olympics I'm doubly determined to be up there and fighting for a medal."
