Farah named European sportsman of 2013

Double Olympic champion Mo Farah edged out Rafael Nadal and F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel to be named European sportsman of 2013.

He is the first British winner of the prize, voted for by members of the European union of sports writers, since Jonathan Edwards in 1995. Last year Jessica Ennis was voted European sportswoman of the year.

Farah was recognised for following up his London 2012 double with golds at 5,000m and 10,000m at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow.

The long distance athlete received a total of 58 votes ahead of Nadal with 49 votes and Vettel with 44 votes.
