Fagbenle impressed with early season performances

Great Britain women’s basketball player Temi Fagbenle admits her side are clicking into gear quicker than expected following successive victories over Italy.

Led by senior women’s head coach Peter Buckle for the first time, the team opened their season with a 59-51 friendly win over Italy in Rome on Saturday night.

They were back on court the following evening with the same starting line-up and the team delivered another winning performance, beating the Italians 60-48.

Fagbenle, who top scored in the first game, again led the way with 20 points while Stef Collins contributed nine points and seven rebounds, with Azania Stewart also won seven rebounds.

And the 21-year-old, who appeared at the London 2012 Olympics with the team, believes they are reaping the rewards from their early season hard work.

“Each and everyone of us has a real connection on court,” she said. “No one would have expected that this early, especially from girls who haven't played together at all.

“It is a real surprise to see just how well we have gelled but it's a credit to the coaching staff and everyone involved."
