Ennis-Hill returns to action with new javelin personal best

Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill made a successful return to action in Loughborough - but admitted she was still a major injury doubt for next month's World Championships.

Ennis-Hill has only competed once since London 2012, back in April, but apart from heavy strapping showed no other signs of her troubling Achilles injury.

She threw a personal best of 48.33 metres to finish fourth in the javelin and won the long jump a 6.26m last round effort.

However, she still remains a doubt for this weekend's Sainsbury's Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium - where she is entered in the 100m hurdles and long jump - and next month's worlds showpiece in Moscow.

"I don’t want to go to just enjoy it, I want to be competitive," she said.

"I want to contend for the gold medal. I want to be ready and it’s been really frustrating and disappointing.

"I didn’t think I’d be opening up my season at practically the end of July."
