Driscoll jumps to European Championship trampoline bronze in Baku

Kat Driscoll's unmatchable European Championship experience proved invaluable after the trampoline star added yet another medal to her ever-growing collection.

The two-time Olympian was competing in her eighth senior Europeans and certainly made her past performances count, securing bronze in Baku having eased through the qualification and semi-finals.

A score of 54.840 was enough for a place on the podium, with Yana Pavlova of Russia taking gold while silver went to Hanna Hancharova of Belarus – a repeat of the podium from two years ago in Spain.

But for Driscoll, who represented Team GB at the London and Rio Games, it was a performance strong enough to secure a seventh European medal and third successive individual honour. The 32-year-old also has two world titles and a No.1 ranking formerly on her honours list but she is far from done there, believing this year to be up there with one of the best of her career on and off the mat.

The key to that continuing will come from remaining injury free, thwarted ever since her second Games right up until the start of last year’s World Championships.

"I’m very excited. It’s been a good year,” she said prior to competing in Azerbaijan.

“I’ve probably had the best year for how my body feels, how my mind has been. I feel really focused on what I need to achieve and I’ve been enjoying training.

“I’m starting to feel the benefit from the big block of training we had at the start of the year."

Driscoll’s bronze rounded off a strong Trampoline, Tumbling & DMT European Championships for the British team, finishing with ten medals from the final day – four of them gold.
