Charlotte Dobson and Mary Rook mastered the changing conditions to seize the overall lead in the women's 49er class at the ISAF World Cup in Hyeres.
Racing together for the first time under the squad rotation system in the new women’s skiff event, they thrived as light winds were replaced by a steady breeze, taking a four point advantage over the fleet.
“It’s a lot of fun in this class," said Dobson, who missed out on a place in the single-handed Laser for the London 2012 Olympics.
"The learning curve is literally vertical, every day is a learning day and that’s what’s making it really rewarding at the moment. You can really see the steps you’re making forward every single day.
“We’re not really too focussed on the results, although you’re a competitive person so they are pretty much always on your mind – even though you say to your coach they’re not!"
Meanwhile, the men's 470 duo of Luke Patience and Joe Glanfield and men's 49er pairing of Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign also top their respective leaderboards.
Bryony Shaw is in equal first after another solid day in the women’s windsurfing fleet while Giles Scott is still second overall in the Finn class.
“I’m really hopeful to be on the podium again," said Shaw.
"It’s nice to have been leading a few races here and banking those wins. We’re trying to keep that momentum going, try and keep medalling and hopefully come out with a gold this time.”
