Dixon double helps England get off to winning start

Adam Dixon helped England open their World League Final campaign with a bang as his double helped see off hosts India.

Dixon scored a goal in each half, both from penalty corners, as England claimed a 2-0 victory over India.

It is England's first competitive tournament since they lost the play-off match for bronze against the Netherlands at EuroHockey 2013 in August.

And Dixon knows just how important it was for England to get off to a fast start.

"I don't score many goals and was just in the right place at the right time,” he said.

"It's crucial to start with a win as you set the momentum for the rest of the tournament."

England find themselves in Pool A with the other group game seeing reigning Olympic and European champions Germany beat New Zealand 6-1.

And England, ranked fourth in the world, will go up against Germany next on Saturday before completing their pool fixtures against New Zealand 48 hours later.
