Diamond and Saxton on song at ISAF World Cup

British world silver medallists Ben Saxton and Hannah Diamond proved a near unstoppable force to seize the initiative of their fleet at the ISAF World Cup in Hyeres.

Saxton and Diamond won two of three races in the Nacra 17 multihull class but are still just one point ahead of France's Billy Besson and Marie Riou, who edged them out of gold at last year's World Championships.

"We’re definitely going to have to step up our racing if we’re going to continue to win races,” said Diamond.

“But we’re really pleased with how everything’s been going for the last two days, so hopefully we’ll just keep doing exactly the same, make sure we keep on making progress and see how it goes.”

Saxton and Diamond are one of three British Olympic class boats to head their fleets with Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign continuing their title defence in the 49er class with two race wins and a fourth boosting their overall advantage.

And Charlotte Dobson and Sophie Ainsworth are in pole position in the women’s equivalent 49erFX while Sophie Weguelin and Eilidh McIntyre are third overall in the women's 470.
