Lamin Deen insists his performance in the two-man bobsleigh event at the Winter Olympics in Sochi has left him confident he can perform even better in the four-man.
Pilot Deen and John Baines, an 11th hour replacement for injured brakeman Craig Pickering, finished in 23rd place in the two-man at the Sanki Sliding Centre.
That was Deen and Baines’ overnight position after two runs and that was where they stayed after their third, in which they clocked a time of 57.38 for their quickest effort of the three.
However, with only the top 20 qualifying for a fourth run their campaign ended there – although pilot Deen saw enough to be more than encouraged for the four-man, which starts on Saturday.
“I am sad that the two-man is over. It was a huge bonus to qualify in the two-man first of all. It is not my best discipline let’s just say,” said Deen.
“And to qualify in the top 30 over 100 drivers in the world is fantastic. The track is very unforgiving, if you make mistakes at the top of the track it will kill your speed as I found out in the second heat.
“However, this final heat was a lot quicker, a lot cleaner and it gives me confidence going into the four-man. From last year at the test event to now this is just my 16th run down this track and that shows I'm doing something right."
