Penny Coomes and Nick Buckland are now looking towards PyeongChang 2018 after warming up for the Olympic Winter Games with a seventh-placed finish at the European Championships in Moscow.
The duo, who won ice dancing bronze at the Europeans in Budapest four years ago, will compete on the biggest stage of all for the third time.
Preparations for the competition in South Korea are now reaching a peak – and it marks a tremendous comeback effort from Coomes.
After shattering her knee in eight places during a training exercise in June 2016, 28-year-old Coomes was warned she may never compete again.
But after surgery and extensive rehab, she returned to competitive action in August and their places in PyeongChang were confirmed by the British Olympic Association in October after clocking a career-best 177.13 in their final qualifying event - the Nebelhorn Trophy in Germany.
And despite missing out on a podium position in Moscow, Coomes vowed the pair will continue their final preparations for South Korea in a positive manner.
“Today didn’t go as well as I had hoped and trained for,” she wrote on Twitter. “A simple error was very costly.
“I’m frustrated to not skate as well as I know I can but proud of how far I have come. So I’m going to smile all the way to the Olympics.”
Saturday’s event in Moscow was won by French stars Gabriella Papadakis ad Guillaume Cizeron, who eased to their fourth consecutive European title. Sportsbeat 2018
