Christie skates to Nagoya silver

Short track speed skater Elise Christie took her tally of World Cup medals for the season to three after an impressive silver in Nagoya, Japan.

Christie picked up 500m gold and 1000m silver at the last World Cup competition in Toronto last month and she was back on the podium again after a second-placed finish in the 500m.

The Brit lost out to Fan Kexin of China but edged out triple Olympic silver medallist Marianne St-Gelais to secure the silver medal.

She tweeted afterwards: “Woohoo super happy World Cup silver today. Thanks for all the support everyone.”

Fellow Brit Charlotte Gilmartin also made it through to the B final in the 1500m, finishing second and then eighth overall for the distance.

In the men’s 500m, Richard Shoebridge was 18th, Paul Stanley finished 32nd, while Joshua Cheetham was 35th overall in the 1500m.
