Christie and Whelbourne skate well on opening day in Seoul

Elise Christie and Jack Whelbourne enjoyed a successful first day of the latest short track speed skating World Cup in Seoul as their tour of Asia continues.

Christie and Whelbourne, the only two British skaters to travel to Shanghai and Seoul for the third and fourth legs of the World Cup series, skated well on the opening day.

Two-time World Championship medallist Christie advanced in the 1000m after placing second in the first heat while she won her first 500m outing for a good start.

Whelbourne meanwhile placed second in the 1500m heats but unfortunately missed out on advancing in the 500m as he finished the last heat in third.

Christie, who suffered so cruelly at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, finished fourth in the first of two 500m events at the last World Cup in Shanghai with the Seoul event the last before Christmas.
