Burnell grabs silver in Marathon World Series event

Jack Burnell put in a fantastic effort to take second place in the FINA Marathon Swim World Series event in the Seychelles.

The 24-year-old is previously a three-time World Cup winner and paced his swim well, spending much of the race in third before coming through to take silver.

Italy’s Simone Ruffini, a former world champion in the 25km race, took the gold medal, with Germany’s Rob Muffels in third.

The other Brit in the men’s race was Tobias Robinson, who finished in 21st position.

Earlier in the day, Italy’s Arianna Bridi won the women’s race, with Brazil’s Ana Marcela Cunha in second.

Alice Dearing was the first British swimmer home, finishing in tenth place, while Danielle Huskisson was 18th.
