British trio get Antalya World Cup up and running with a bronze

Layla Annison, Ella Gibson and Lucy Mason claimed the first medal of the Antalya Archery World Cup as Great Britain pipped India to bronze.

The trio of archers formed the women’s compound team who beat Germany 234-223 in Turkey but were edged out of a shot at the gold medal by the USA.

That set up a bronze medal face-off with Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Swati Dudhwal and Muskan Kirar of India.

The Brits slipped behind in the early stages but Annison, Gibson and Mason roared back to form to claim a 228-226 victory and a podium finish.

Meanwhile the mixed teams were also in action as recurvers Bryony Pitman and Rio 20165 Olympic Games competitor Patrick Huston defeated Kazakhstan but could not overcome the challenge of Russia as they fell to a 5-3 defeat.

And the compound team of Layla and Neil Bridgewater also beat Kazakhstan but lost out to Turkey.
