Stef Collins believes her milestone of a 100th international cap is something to shout about not just for her but for the whole of women’s basketball in Great Britain.
The 30-year-old racked up her century of Great Britain outings against Germany at the weekend’s British Basketball Invitational Tournament – a game the hosts won in overtime to finish the competition as runners-up.
Collins is the first female or male to achieve such a feat and her milestone is made all the more impressive when you consider that she has played in every single game since the Great Britain programme was re-established in 2006.
Since 2006 the national side has become more competitive with each passing year, with the side becoming a regular fixture at EuroBasket Women as well as the momentous Olympic appearance in London 2012.
And Collins is adamant that her own achievement is actually a celebration of the sport in Great Britain as a whole.
"It's absolutely amazing,” she said. “It's a great milestone, not just for me, but the programme in general.
"Since 2006 British Basketball has taken a step forward each year and we've seen many firsts in that time too; our first time in European Division A, our first EuroBasket, our first Olympics.
"We've got to a point now where I think we've collectively made a great culture and our own style of play.
"We've inspired some youngsters and will hopefully keep that going. We have a cycle going and some of the Under 20 girls that are coming in are now featuring in the senior set-up and that's great to see.
"I think we're in a great situation."
