Holly Bradshaw continued her good form from the Commonwealth Games with a podium finish in the first Diamond League of the 2018 season.
The 26-year-old, fourth on the Gold Coast earlier this year, cleared 4.44m at the first time of asking in Doha before clearing 4.54 after two unsuccessful efforts.
Crucially, the Blackburn athlete then vaulted 4.64m at the first attempt to put her in medal contention and she took home silver after three failed attempts at 4.74m.
Bradshaw was beaten by the United States’ world indoor champion Sandi Morris – the only athlete to clear 4.74m – but finished ahead of Olympic and World champion Katerina Stefanidi who was fourth.
Bradshaw said: “A bit inconsistent so I need to work on a few things but looking forward the next one already. I had an amazing time competing tonight in the Doha Diamond League with amazing girls.”
Elsewhere in Doha, Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake finished fifth in a time of 20.37 seconds in his first 200m of the 2018 season as America’s Noah Lyles took the win in 19.83s.
Mitchell-Blake, fourth at the World Championships in London last year, clocked 10.08 over the 100m a few weeks ago and ran a good bend on Friday night before crossing the line fifth.
In the 400m hurdles, Jack Green finished seventh from lane eight in a time of 50.22 as Qatari Abderrahman Samba ran a Diamond League record of 47.54.
The fourth and final British athlete in action was Eilish McColgan who finished 12th in the 3000m with a time of 8:48.03. Sportsbeat 2018
