Bleasdale soars into pole vault final

Britain's Holly Bleasdale erased the memories of her failure at last year's World Championships by reaching the pole vault final, but team-mate Kate Dennison was undergoing a scan on a wrist injury after a nasty fall during qualifying.

Bleasdale and world record holder Yelena Isinbaeva were among the 12 qualifiers to clear 4.55m after Dennison went out at 4.40m, the former British record holder crashing to the track on her final attempt after appearing to twist her ankle as she went to plant her pole.

Bleasdale said: "That was really good. I came out here and I was so nervous, the most nervous I have ever been in my life, the crowd were amazing. I know there is much more left to come."
