Baku 2015: Buller believes the future is bright

Team leader Nick Buller insists Team GB’s water polo squad will be better for their European Games experience after signing off from Baku with their heads held high.

After defeat against Serbia on Wednesday, Team GB faced off against Israel in their 11-12 classification match.

Buller’s side had already beaten Israel earlier in the competition and they ensured lightning would strike twice as they secured a 10-5 victory.

Grace Rowland and Lucy Shaw both grabbed hat-tricks but Danica Brazier stole the show by going one better.

But Buller believes his entire team will be able to build on their maiden European Games experience.

“We’re pleased with today’s results, we saw how well Israel had played the day before and we how well they came back strongly in our first game so we knew it was going to be tough,” he said.

“It’s been fantastic for the girls to get this multi-sport experience. I think we’ve enjoyed and made the most of every moment, we’ve learnt a lot from being here, especially how to deal with pressure and that’s going to be hugely beneficial going forward.

“We’ve shown we can score top goals against the top teams and the score differentials have been far less than in the past so that’s a real positive. We’ve got plenty to build on in the future.”
